The BMW i8 even shares a comparable hybrid car drivetrain as the predecessor as well as the i8 BMW’s technical engineers have were able to squeeze out additional grunt. The i8 comes fitted having a 220 horsepower 3-cylinder engine which drives the rear wheels, plus a customized electric powered drive system in the BMW i3 Concept which drives the leading wheels. Using this type of setup the BMW i8 can achieve 62 mph (100km/h) from the standing begin in under 5 seconds. Simultaneously the i8 (albeit driven much more conservatively!) just requires 3 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in the European cycle (approx. 94 mpg).
