Monolith Numbers in Blocks Watch Concept by Samuel Jerichow
The Monolith concept started with sketching for minimalistic numbers. I made these slim blocks with different lengths that form numbers in a new way. They look a bit like a barcode or some skyscraper lights. There are no horizontal elements but these numbers work just fine.
For the case I chose a minimalistic, slightly curved shape and straps that follow the curve. I was playing with different materials. The first version of the case is a smooth chrome block. The LEDs are covered by a translucent mirror layer. The carbon straps of this version bring a nice contrast and make the case look more solitary. Another variant is a black steel case with cuts for the time bars combined with a segmented strap in the same material. Also a simple but a more distinct in expression. The third version is an eye catching acetate case with slight grooves for the numbers, clamped by chrome elements that hold silicone straps.
